BACKUP
The architecture for backup within a HPC environment is based on proven backup up technologies of using combination disk and tape strategies. One example would be using disk-to-disk-to tape approach. Two benefits of backing up from disk- to- disk vs. disk-to- tape are a reduced backup window and end users can retrieve needed files much faster from disk than tape. Then depending specific short and long term retention policies, data can left on disk, snapped from disk, moved from disk to tape in whole or selectively moved to tape via Hierarchical System Management (HSM) for long term storage
